Berlioz Requiem at St. Paul’s Cathedral
Foundation-funded legacy performance, broadcast, and recording project
Berlioz: Requiem was a landmark cathedral performance conceived and produced by the Knight Classical team to mark the 150th anniversary of the death of Hector Berlioz. The performance took place at St Paul’s Cathedral and was conducted by the late John Nelson, a management client of the company.
From concept to delivery
Knight Classical conceived, developed, and delivered the project as a fully integrated artistic, broadcast, and recording initiative, leading all aspects of artistic production. This included the engagement of the Philharmonia Orchestra, choirs, and soloist Michael Spyres, and the coordination of a large-scale performance involving over 300 performers.
Broadcast and recorded legacy
From inception, the project was designed to exist simultaneously as a major public event and a permanent cultural document. The performance was recorded for CD and DVD release by Warner Classics and live streamed internationally by medici.tv, extending its reach far beyond the cathedral. This project formed part of a wide Knight Classical initiative: a recorded cycle of Berlioz’s major works for orchestra with chorus (read more).
Patronage partnership
The project was realised with the support of a dedicated foundation patron, with which our team worked in close collaboration throughout the project’s development and delivery.
Integration with Artist Management
Berlioz: Requiem exemplifies Knight Classical’s integrated approach to artist management, as well as our team’s expertise in creating and producing large-scale, commemorative cultural projects – uniting artistic vision, heritage venues, international broadcast, and recorded legacy within a single, cohesive framework.
